How to Look and Feel Good in the Summer

Like most people I tend to feel a bit sluggish in the winter. I eat a lot of junk food (due mainly to my busy job and my aversion to cooking!), I exercise very rarely and I drink as much as the next British woman, which is in fact rather a lot! Then summer arrives unexpectedly and I feel like a scruffy, unhealthy hedgehog that’s been woken out of hibernation with hairy legs and an unhealthy complexion. As you’ll have gathered I’m certainly not an exercise freak and I can’t be bothered with healthy eating diets and detoxes. Like everyone, however, I feel happier when I’m healthier so here are my top tips for people like me to get a little bit healthier and happier without going overboard and booking a full course in acne laser treatment or anything else silly like that!
1) Find an outdoor swimming pool. Seriously this is so much more fun than the gym and immediately makes you feel like an outdoorsy person. The first shock of the cold water makes you swim as much as you can to get warm so it’s a great way to exercise and feel invigorated at the same time. Also you can make a day of it. Go with friends and after your hard work swimming you can reward yourself with a laze on the grass in the sunshine. Bliss!
2) Take up yoga. I know it’s a bit of a cliché but it really does make you feel much calmer and better after a session. Find a good teacher and you’ll really enjoy it. Afterwards you really do feel cleansed and your body has had a nice stretch.
3) Drink more water. Obvious but true and hey it’s free so there’s no reason not to! It’s good for your complexion and great for your body in general so it would be foolish not to.
4) Don’t stress about food. Eat when you’re hungry and enjoy eating out with friends just make sure you take advantage of all the lovely fruits and vegetables that are on offer at the moment. Buy a fruit you’ve never had before like a coconut or a mango. Mmm yummy and nourishing!
